Some cross hatch is usually done for Nikasil barrels, not Alusil barrels. Alusil barrels are honed with sunnen
felt pads with a special silicone paste applied & only when the cylinder is bored. It is re-exposing the
silicone crystals in the cylinders. The silicone/aluminium etching is porous enough to retain oil for bore
lubrication.
One does not want to hone them, if they don't mic out, one can have them nikasil plated. Let us remember,
the rings are different between alusil & nikasil assemblies, thus one must not then use the same rings.
Alusil pistons are ferro-coated to prevent galling.
